Since 1927 The  League promotes economic empowerment through education and job  training, housing and community development, workforce development,  entrepreneurship, health, and quality of life.

  

The Buffalo Urban League has an operating budget of 11M. Grants and government funding comprise of approximately 80% of revenue, sponsorship, fundraising and endowment comprise the remaining 20%.

  

Complete oversight of Development including but not limited to Grants, Events, Major Gifts, Donor Relations, Planned Giving, Sponsorship and the Capital Campaign; Board Development Committee; Oversees all Social Media, Communications, Marketing and Design Departments; Creates annual fundraising calendar; Manages the events team; Creates the Annual Development budget.


• Increased revenue from the annual fundraiser by 1000% in 2024 from the 2023, and by 173% over the 2024 net in 2025 • Ensures funder and board reports are realized • Diversified grant sources • Creates the yearly fundraising calendar for the agency • New Programs include: Annual Appeal, Crowdfunding, Membership, New Sponsorship Opportunities, Digital Campaigns, New Grant sources and Opportunities: examples include and not limited to: the Fidelis Care Center for Community Advancement and the Buffalo Urban League Green Jobs re-entry program.

The home to the Solar powered 1924 De Angelis Carousel, the Buffalo Heritage Carousel is a tourist destination on Buffalo’s waterfront, serving approximately 200,000 visitors from Memorial Day to Labor Day. 


Took over the stalled $6.8M project, opening to the public May 28, 2021. 75,000 riders from May 28th, to September 6th, 2021 and an additional 10,000 in the remaining 48 days to reach 85,000 riders in 2021, closing 1 year of operations at 100,000 riders.

  

Reports directly to the Board of Directors and part of the executive team. Responsible for all staff, volunteers and interns. External face of the organization, understands key stakeholders and keeping them engaged, from political leaders to funders to the media and cultural partners.

  

Created and implemented the 2020-2022 Strategic plan, across all departments of the organization, including the board responsibilities. Created the 2020, 2021 and 2022 operating budgets, with 2023 in the planning stage.

Managing clients that include Adobe, Microsoft, Monotype, Oracle, Google, Apple, and multiple smaller foundries. Driving the processes to ensure success even in times of hardship or recession. Currently, Atypi maintains an average of 300 days revenue at all times, as well as engaging full time staff located globally. 


Part of the Executive Team, working towards establishing economic independence. Reviews all contracts, oversees all accounting transactions, meets with stakeholders to promote Atypi Internationally, attends all committee and board meetings.

Public Service

2016 was a pivotal moment - creating a climate of change and momentum for in 2018 more women ran for public office in New York State than any other year. 


In 2018 Carima El-Behairy was the progressive Democratic candidate who ran for the New York State Senate in the 60th District, which covers parts of Western New York including Buffalo. She ran a community-focused campaign centering on education, healthcare access, and small business support, but was defeated in the general elections.
